Wear It Out, Sister!

Resisting the Urge…

Today I’m obsessed and so tempted to buy a skirt.  In general, I avoid going to malls, but I needed to today and couldn’t resist checking out a local boutique named Rosey’s, which I had never visited before.  I tried on quite a few attractive items, but the black tiered tulle floor-length ruffle skirt caught my imagination and interest.  When I tried it on, it had a bit of a mermaid drape and looked best with the t-shirt I was wearing (of all things), and I can imagine it with flip flops or high heels at a casual party or dressed up for the evening.  I can’t even find a picture of anything similar online to show you (maybe I’ll have to go back to the store to take a photo).  Here’s my dilemma though… it cost $250!  How can I claim to support thrift store shopping and then spend that much on one darling skirt?

In order to talk me off the ledge, I called my sister.  She reminded me of starving people in the world, my children’s college funds, told me it would not be worth it if I had to make any alterations, and think of how many great items you could buy at a thrift store, etc. etc. Yes, yes, she is right of course.  But still, my mind is whirling to try and figure out what I could wear with it (my first choice might actually be a jeans jacket) and how I could justify purchasing it (I can’t) and if I might just go back to the store and try it on one more time?

I’m taking a deep breath, I’ll be fine, I think the problem is that I haven’t been thrift store shopping for over a month and my closet is looking too full to add anything.  Fortunately, I’ll be visiting my sisters next week and will take some clothes for exchange and we’ll absolutely be doing some thrift store shopping.  And who knows maybe someone recently donated a skirt just like the one I saw at Rosey’s and I’ll snatch it up for $5.00. Hey, I’d even be willing to spend $10!
