Ok, first off, I need to say that some words start to look and sound strange after saying, typing, or writing them repeatedly – third is falling into that category for me right now… Moving on.
So I offered the furniture that I had purchased in October up for sale again on our local online garage sale (making a $5.00 profit :). I’d purchased it from a multiple moves military family who offered the set minus one of the original chairs, which was damaged in their most recent move, and it served me well for over a month.
The woman who bought it from me couldn’t fit it into her car, so I offered to haul the table and then help move it to its new location. It turns out she purchased it for her new business venture, the brand new paint your own pottery store on the island. It’s awesome to know what the next chapter in the life of this table will be. I imagine all the creative projects and fun that people will have, making happy memories on the table and comfortable chairs.
I find it an interesting thought exercise to consider where the items we use daily go when we are through with them. We can’t take stuff with us; the stuff stays behind. Some furniture remains in the family for multiple generations; some get sold, some are destroyed, items get lost or broken during a move, and some remain in the same house while the people come and go. If furniture could talk, what stories would it tell?
It’s also interesting to me to consider how my willingness to give up something that no longer serves me well will be a blessing and bring joy to others who need it. Tis’ the reason for the season.
There is a principle that underlies all the religions and spiritual practices that I’m aware of, stating something along the lines of… what goes around comes around. Karma, the Golden Rule, trusting in the Universe, the Law of Attraction, Reaping what you Sow, the Law of One, etc. etc. Call it what you will, practice it however you like, but what a cool concept to let go of what we no longer use and then humbly wait for the blessings we do need.
I believe that those blessings will always come when we have room. So I’m makin’ room because I need a lot of blessings right now. Here’s wishing you room to hold all the blessings coming your way too.
